Finding space for stormwater management infrastructure in New England cities can be a challenge, but public streets offer a unique opportunity: create a “green street,” which incorporates vegetation, soil, and engineered systems to slow, filter, and cleanse stormwater runoff from impervious surfaces.
Green streets include a wide variety of design elements, including street trees, permeable pavements, bioretention cells, and swales. These elements improve water quality, reduce street flooding, and improve overall community health and prosperity.
This webinar will showcase the City of Burlington’s Great Streets Initiative, which supports a vibrant, walkable, and environmentally sustainable urban center.
