Creating and Connecting the Green Infrastructure Workforce

Part of the Soak Up the Rain webinar series created by US EPA New England.

Building a greener future requires a specialized workforce that can design, build, and maintain green infrastructure.

Training programs such as the National Green Infrastructure Certification Program (NGICP) offer opportunities to develop the skills and experience needed to meet the growing demand for installation and maintenance of green infrastructure projects.

In Boston, innovative training programs are teaching proper green infrastructure installation and maintenance techniques to promote a healthier city with equitable access to green space and its associated benefits.

The growing demand for street trees, rain gardens, parks, greenways, and other nature-based solutions in community environmental and public health projects requires a larger green workforce in both the public and private sectors.

This webinar will cover several green infrastructure training programs in the City of Boston, Massachusetts. Speakers will discuss strategies to connect businesses with graduates of green infrastructure training programs as demand for these skills increases in the Boston area.

Case studies will demonstrate how investment in green jobs training can lead to more sustainable green infrastructure programs that improve the health of local communities and secure jobs for local residents.
